Alicia Koplowitz - Grupo Omega Capital Collection
The exhibition catalogue includes an essay entitled "La senda del arte" ["The Road of Art"] in which the historian and art critic Francisco Calvo Serraller discusses the highlights of the collection, setting them in the context of the different historical periods and art movements to which they belong. Almudena Ros, the curator of the collection and of this exhibition, has also written an essay on the guiding principles that underpinned the origin of the collection and have shaped its development. The catalogue includes reproductions of all the works on display and an appendix with the technical descriptions of the works.
Over the past few decades the Alicia Koplowitz Grupo Omega Capital Collection has become one of the most important art collections in Europe. Despite this, it has remained largely unknown with the exception of the recent display of around 50 works at the Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris.
The exhibition at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum is an artistic event of the first order as for the first time it will introduce the visiting public to an extensive selection of works from this collection, based on an exceptional roll-call of great masters within the history of art. On display will be a total of 90 paintings dating from the 16th to the 21st centuries, in addition to sculptures from classical antiquity to today.
