The divine Morales
Organised in collaboration with the Museo Nacional del Prado (1/10/15 to 10/1/16) and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona (16/6/16 to 25/9/16), this exhibition is curated by Leticia Ruiz Gómez, head of the Department of Spanish Renaissance Painting at the Museo del Prado. It focuses on the work of Luis de Morales (1510/1511-1586) through a group of paintings by this artist and his studio from the permanent collection of the Museo del Prado.
In addition to the 22 selected works from the Prado, which include The Calvary and The Resurrection donated by Plácido Arango, there are 32 from Spanish and international museums, private collections and religious institutions, such as The Madonna and Child and Young Saint John from the New Cathedral in Salamanca and the Ecce Homo from the National Museum of Old Master Art, Lisbon, recently restored in the Prado workshops. An important autograph version of The Pietà from the collection of the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao will be among the works on display.
